John Henry Tilden (January 21, 1851 – September 1, 1940) was an American physician who pioneered the study of detoxification by boldly claiming that there was only one disease that manifested different symptoms in different people, and that it was caused by auto-intoxication (self-poisoning) or toxemia, as he called it. His book Toxemia Explained is considered a pioneering classic of the Natural Hygiene movement which emphasised the body's ability to heal itself by cleaning itself of cellular wastes when encouraged to do so.
